Some areas now require those with drunk driving convictions to install a ignition interlock device which requires the driver to blow into a breathalyzer to be able to start the vehicle. This equipment is required by law and must be installed at the cost of the convicted drunk driver.
Not only does a DUI conviction affect your ability to drive and your driving record, but it will also increase insurance rates and may prevent you from renting a vehicle, driving in another country or finding specific types of employment.
